So you’ve got your theory test appointment. Ideally, you have been studying a long time
practical driving and are well prepared. Make sure that you know where the test centre is
located and be sure of the time of your test. You do not want to be in the rush and arrive
in a falstart, so on the day leave plenty of time.
You will need to bring your test appointment letter with you, or if you booked with short
notice, your booking number. You need to take both parts of your licence, if not – you
may not be able to take your test. You may have to bring some form of photo identity,
your instructor or trainer will be able to tell you what is acceptable.
When you arrive you may be directed to the information rack containing instruction
sheets about the test and where to put your personal belongings. As well as English these
sheets are available in 20 other languages. In some test centres you will be given the
sheet at the reception desk. You will be asked to place your personal belongings
including your mobile phone into one of the lockers provided. Don’t forget to switch it
off.
You must keep hold of your documents and ID as you’ll need these when you’re signing
for the test. The receptionist will check the license name against the on screen schedule.
Your license will then be checked to ensure that you’re not disqualified or suspended
from driving. And to verify your identity. You will be asked if you want to listen to the
test questions in English or any other of the languages available. The availibility of this
service depends on the type of test you are taking.
Once you have signed in, you will be directed towards the test room. An invidulator
supervisors the testing room. There maybe the number of people taking different types of
tests when you arrive, so try to not disturb them when you go in. When you are ready to
take your test, the individulator will check your ID and ask you to confirm which test you
are taking. You will also be asked to read the testing room rules before you enter.
The invidulator will show you your workstation, settle you in, and set up the computer
ready for your test.
Headphones are provided and you can adjust the volume by turning the controls on the
side. You should remain at the workstation until you have completed both parts of the
test. If there is a problem with the computer, raise your hand , the invidulator can see you
clearly throughout your test.
When you are satisfied that you have completed your test, you may leave the testing
room. Your ID is checked again and you will be redirected to the receptionist to receive
your results. The receptionist will require your ID again to ensure the correct results are
handed over to you. You will be given the score for both parts of the test and an overall
result. If you are well prepared, it should be the right one!
